Collecting and integrating new data on an industrial plant
JAG JAKOB wanted to offer customers a new service of data integration. They wanted to be able to deploy sensors on a secure and private wireless network on an industrial plant to collect data that they and/or customers would find value in.
This would include, in priority, data from unconnected machines (even analogical machines), and various contextual data (temperature, pressure, humidity, etc.). They needed the capability to deploy massively and easily multiple kinds of sensors over the entire plant floor. Some of their customers also wanted the wireless network to be entirely isolated from the internet (so it should be fully autonomous).
Deploying sensors, a real challenge
Although a company like JAG has a strong experience in deploying wired sensors, wireless technology is not the same. The constraints the customers set up were also strong. JAG considered this was not part of their core business and it would be easier to find a partner. They asked us to engineer a solution that would satisfy both their needs and the ones of their customers.
Brain-it engineered solution
Based on our experience, we engineered a solution that would allow them to deploy sensors as easily as possible in a plant and collect and decrypt the data they needed. We based our design on a LoRa network that allows us to deploy multiple Gateways on a fully private network interconnected through the plant LAN Network with JAG servers.
We monitored the plant and determined the number of gateways needed. We also monitored any interference that would diminish the quality of the data collected by the sensors. Deploying a fully private and isolated network proved to be without difficulty.
We then interfaced our solution with JAG so they can receive clean, monitored and decrypted data and upload them directly on their applications. We also provide the deployment solution that, on an isolated system, proved to be a little more challenging but doable.
Realization
- Installation of 4 Gateways on an industrial plant interconnected through RJ45 LAN Ethernet. One Gateway can manage up to 100 sensors.
- An on-premise IoT management and monitoring solution that works on a local virtualized server connected to the plant LAN.
- A simplified mass deployment web application de deploy and activate the sensors on the various Gateways.
- A fully on-premise solution that is not plugged to the internet for security reasons.
- Data decryption, transformation and monitoring application
- Data transfer through a web service directly to JAG JAKOB application.
